Staying in the moment can help deal with long-term struggles

...is often an attempt to go somewhere else, emotionally and mentally. Very little time and energy are spent noticing the present moment, except to try and change your experience.
 Mindfulness teaches that instead of trying to avoid your experience, which has been associated with a host of mental and emotional disorders, you adopt an inquisitive and observing attitude toward your thoughts, feelings, and circumstances.

Can You Outsmart Addiction? By DAVID SACK, M.D.

Can You Outsmart Addiction | Link between Intelligence and Addiction | Addiction Recovery:
     Addiction doesn’t care how smart you are or how much money you make. Your wits may serve you well in many areas of life, but you simply can’t think your way out of a drug or alcohol problem. Certainly, learning about the disease and understanding its biological roots is an important part of recovery. The Amazing Connection Between Happiness and Kindness

By JENISE HARMON, MSW, LISW

     A study in 2005 by Hebrew University in Israel noted that there is a link between kindness and a gene that releases dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical in the brain that makes us feel happy. So, not only does kindness make the person on the receiving end feel good, it makes the person being kind feel good as well.
     When my daisies were in full bloom, my daughter went and delivered bouquets  to several neighbors. The look on her face (and theirs) was one of pure joy. If you’ve ever done an act of kindness, be it buying someone coffee, helping at a shelter, or shoveling a neighbor’s driveway, you understand the rush of good feelings that occur.http://blogs.psychcentral.com/your-life/2012/09/the-amazing-connection-between-happiness-and-kindness/

Recovery = Abstinence... Or not

There is nothing more that I want than this.

"I've been saying that we should be moving to a different definition, one that focuses on improvement in quality of life, as the basis for whether someone is in recovery or not.
